It is hard to tell, and, I don't want to disturb it by taking a closer look if it has. What do you think?

Yeah... they've both deflated and clearly, they've split. No cigars, but I am giving away free Zoa frags (seriously). LOL

I'm a bit concerned... I had the Zoa growth explosion I posted about a few days ago. Now this. I've had some people tell me that a Nem splits when it is stressed and others say that it is happy and healthy when it splits.

So which is it?

I guess the pair of Ocellaris clownfish that I currently have in QT will each get a Nem!

Ya, we have 7 nems and 2 clowns. They have 1 favorite nem. You would think they would want their own but nope.

I think it would be cool if they shared a Nem. Thats why I'm a bit disappointed... I thought that would happen with such a big Nem. Now that it's split... time will tell.

The last time I had a Nem that split, neither one made it. How should I handle this?

I have never had any problems with nems and have never lost one. Are yours housed in the same tank as the ones you lost in the past? Same lights? Did you ever pinpoint why you might have lost them?

I had a nem that cost me $200 split a week after I bought it! I just let them be so the mouths could heal. Thankfully I already had one nem that my clown was hosting so he didn’t bother the twins during their healing time. I also didn’t feed until a week after the mouths were healed. They’re still doing great, no issues

From what I've seen and can tell excessive splitting is usually due to stress, sending out clones to seek better conditions.
They live 50-100 years or so, and have little predation, so should not have reason to reproduce very often.

Pretty common to see a new to tank nem split from change in params, and some people overfeed to stress and induce a split.

IMO if you have a nem that has reached it's full size and once in a great while splits it may just be a natural non stress induced split, but that's just my opinion based on years of observation, and there may be many more factors not clearly seen or obvious to us.

I think if you had a small nem constantly splitting it could be due to less than desirable conditions

Just leave them be.

This is probably THEE number one thing people can do for their nems, split or new to tank, people mess w/ them just too much too often.
Any touching, moving around or messin w/ it just stresses it.

I like this advice. The last split was in a completely different setup. So maybe I'll have better luck this time around with better equipment.

I have a pair of clowns in QT that are due to go in the tank with the Nems. I'll have to put that off.
