Been looking rough for ages and about 2 months ago one of the parts just disappeared of arms then went black and two days ago this one went. All the arms are short and wreak looking. There seems to be algae round the dead part, could that have anything to do with it?

What are the water parameters?

This guy got beat up by something. Have you done a dip on it? Or have a fish or invert that is picking at it?

The problem has been going on for months really so water has been going up and down slightly but is roughly around the below. Never seen a fish go by it and never seen a snail or anything else on it. I dipped it in revive when I first got it and for 4 or 5 months it was amazing but then just started to slowly decline. It isn’t close to any other corals. I have moved it to a few different flow areas of the tank but can’t stop the decline.

Ca - 400
Mg - 1300
KH - dkh 7
NO3 - 5
NO2 - 0
Amonia- 0
PH - 8.2

What is salinity. I had a false reading with two different gages and took water sample to LFS to find it was 1.031 and causing similar issues.
I would suggest taking a sample of water to a trusted LFS and have them test water for you and verify and compare with your readings.

The thing is though that all the other corals are thriving and look fat and healthy except that I got two different frags of zoas and the first one melted and the second one is on the way out as well. So I assume if there was a water problem it would affect everything?

Salinity is 1.025

Not always the case. Some corals are more tolerant than others. I would say torches and zoas are pretty picky. ESP when it comes to alk. How are you testing and maintaining your alk? 7 is on the low side, though corals can adapt to a lower alk, an alk that’s 7 that isn’t maintained can shift points in the couple weeks you aren’t dosing or doing WC.

Testing is either Red Sea or salifert, the Red Sea one seems hard to read as the colours are so light. I’m not maintaining to be honest, just letting the WC take care of it. I do have some Red Sea alk solution so I’ll do another test tomorrow and dose whatever has dropped. Should I try and raise the alk past 7?

What salt are you using? And what is your WC schedule? Size of tank and water volume? Coral stock has a lot to do with it. People with more calcifying corals use up lots more alk then someone with a few sps frags. Water volume is also another. I have seen people get away with WC to maintain alk, but these people do it religiously every week! I think it’s easier to test then maintain with a 1 or 2 part dosing system. An alk of 8-9 would be more ideal. So if it shifts a point, you won’t get down to 5-6 like you were at before.

Also, just thought about it and usually after a WC the alk is at 8 but yesterday I started a new tub of salt for half the WC and the reading is 7, would different salt batches have different levels so drastic?

Make sure to take your bag of salt out and mix it around. Sometimes during shipping salt can settle. Also happens more frequently with cheaper salts. I’ve never had this happen using tropic marin pro, all the levels are even top to bottom and I never had to mix it like my instant ocean salt mix

I use a product called quantum essentials macro probiotic, I think it is an Aussie brand. The tank is a 215l with lps only, hammer, frogspawn, acro, scoly, Goni. I do a 20% change every 2 weeks
