Has your tank ever told you that it's done?

Mine has. It happens when you've bought all the corals you need to make it look nice, when you've got a nice selection of fish that all get along. When everything is growing and thriving, and you fall into the temptation of adding in that one impulse fish or that really nice frag. The tank just simply won't have it, and will tell you to tick off.

For instance, my reef has been going stellar. It's in its routine, and everything is happy and content. I figured that my reef could handle one more fish for a total of four; after all, every comment I get is, "Why do you only have three fish??" Thus, I got a yellow watchman goby; he died overnight under a rock. No apparent reason; he was acclimated properly and seemed to be in excellent health. Okay. A month later, I try again. "Man, I really love that flame hawkfish!" Unfortunately, my alpha female clownfish, Bertha, decided otherwise. Overnight the hawk went from being beautiful to looking like he went through a blender. I quickly quarantined him that morning to try and let him heal, but he passed away the next day.

Point taken- three fish and that's it. Don't disturb the harmony if everything's working and doing well.

As far as fish go, my 30g is stocked with 7 fish and that is all I can fit. Coral on the other hand, I could add a bunch more. I tend to take coral additions slower than most I think. Mostly because I like to see how things grow and see if I need to move something prior to the next addition.

I think if you are at that point where you can't do anything else, you could upgrade or start another tank or just enjoy what you have.

I wish i could disagree with you, i really want to show you the ways i have proven this wrong.... i mean come on, its only one more fish right?!?!

Nope, i know what you mean. When my 75 was stocked and good to go, every single fish i added got picked off or died for unknown reasons. It just wanted its 5 small fish and one medium fish. The 7th was a death sentence. It didnt matter what i introduced. From sand sifters, to schooling, to territorial, passive or aggressive.... they all met their fate. When i stopped adding, everything was back to enjoyment.
