I recently purchased a used 155 gal bow- front reef ready aquarium with stand, and canopy. As I shop around for supplies I will need some guidance on the equipment for a mixed reef setup. Years ago I built a 30 gal sump for a 180 gal reef and didn’t feel that it was large enough so this time I went with a 40 gal which is about all the room the stand will allow for height wise.
With the sump in place under the tank I have 26†max head room. In order to build the sump to accommodate the skimmer I plan on purchasing the skimmer before I build the sump so I can arrange the dividers to allow ample room for the skimmer footprint area and water height. Back I the day on the 180 gal I had the MRC MR-2 skimmer that I felt was hard to keep adjusted and tune I don’t want to go down that road again. Please provide me with your skimmer experiences / ideas on this matter and what is recommended for a good, efficient yuck sucking, no hassle free skimmer.
