Hey all,
Just a general question. I have been using 25 and 50 micron socks for, roughly, the past year. I removed the sock due to adding some Coraline algae. It's been off for approximately the past 3 days. While I notice a bit more gunk floating about I have also noticed my mushrooms and zoa's seem to have been opening a bit more than they had otherwise. Question here is, would I be better off with 100-250 micron socks? I change the socks every 3-4 days since that's what it takes for them to fill up. But, am I pulling too much of the good stuff out of the water?

What are your nitrate levels at? You could always try the larger 100-250 micron socks for a few weeks.
I just checked and it's between 10-25 which is not higher than normal. To clarify I have no problem continuing to use my micron socks. I'm just curious if I'm doing more harm than good.

Given that many corals are filter feeders, by not filtering out the food particles they are most likely eating more making them happier corals. +1 on the larger micron sock.
