Hello all.

I have a 90g Cube
Build thread here

I was curious if you all think I have maxed out on fish.

Current stock:
1x lemon peel angel
1x Scopas tang
1x fairy wrasse
1x leopard wrasse
1x pink spot goby
1x starry blenny
1x mochavinci clown

I really have always wanted a sailfin tang. Specifically a desjardini. I have attempted twice now with regular sailfins (both barely 2"-- my LFS was having a half price sale). The first died within 48 hours and the 2nd died from being obviously beat up while I was away on a weekend trip and I had someone not as keen take care of the tank while I was away.

I thought my 90g would be large enough for at least 10 species but I am kind of getting the feeling that I am maxed? I would also love one more wrasse (a flasher this time) and a flame hawk. Putting my grand total of fish at 10. I thought this would be acceptable for the tank size, but maybe since it is a cube...it's different? What are your thoughts?

In my opinion, a cube does kind of limit the size in terms of swimming space for fish, specifically tangs. The other fish in your list should do just fine in a 90g Cube; you definitely can have 10 fish in there that are similar in size to the ones you mentioned in your list. I don't think a sailfin Tang will fare well in a 90G cube; it's just simply not big enough. However, there are certainly other tangs that will do great in a 90g Cube. For example, smaller tangs such as Bristletooth Tangs, Yellow Tangs, and Mimic Tangs do great in 90 gallons.

I know I may have to delay my dreams of a sailfin until I upgrade to a dream tank... I just am not 100% willing to accept this fate quite yet.

Well if you're planning to upgrade in a couple of years then a 1-2in Sailfin should be fine in the 90G until you upgrade or have some backup plan to do with it when it gets too big. I wasn't sure if you planned to keep it in a 90G until it grew to a whopping 15 in, Lol.

Sailfin tangs get fairly big and need swimming room. Without this they will get aggressive with other fish. I would wait for the upgrade and guarantee its health and happiness. Just my opinion.
