Found attached to side of my clam. It pulled away easy and has a hard side.

Clam seems totally fine (it’s been a few days now)

Any ideas?

It was on the sode of the clam? The hard part looks like rock or rubble, is that what it is? The rest looks to me like released byssal threads attached to rock.

Yep

Well I got the feeling it was part of the Clam when we removed it but after inspecting it seemed fine.

(googles "byssal threads"....)

That's what I thought it was but the Clam is still firmly attached to the substrate.

Looks like it got rid of the old attachment and has made a new one.

I don't know why byssal threads make me gag but I think it may be a conditioned reaction from clams losing them in the fish store and then dying/ Glad your clam is still holding on.
