Have You Ever Given Up On Your Favorite Fish?

Giving my Sohal Tang "Shallow Hal" to the LFS tomorrow. Absolutely the fish with the most personality in the tank, the definition of "wet pet" but he's stressing out the other fish. I'm slowly giving away some of my others but this one will sting the most. I'm going to trim down to about 10 fish then try another small Sohal. They get big quick but hopefully I can upgrade before that.

Best advice after having a Sohal, add it last and add it small but don't be surprised if it turns into a menace.

I've been in a similar situation. Mine was a beautiful Niger trigger I had for over 6 years. He didn't bother other fish but started munching on my fleshy lps corals so he had to go.
Your sohal is a beauty. I always look at them when I see one but my largest tank is a 6ft 180 and I wouldn't put one in a tank less than 8ft. I won't buy any fish that may need to be rehomed later due to tank size.

It might have been fine in the 6 footer but I don't want to risk it. I think the biggest mistake I made was not adding it last. I'd say it's about 10 inches and I'm not sure how much bigger it will get. Live and learn.

If my 230 ends up being the 5-10 fish which can tolerate each other (without losing a fish) I'm going to call it a success. One of them being a Sohal, hah.

Wow. I had no idea it was that large. It's hard for me to judge size if I don't have something for reference. That clown trigger must be pretty large too? All the fish look fat and healthy with no battle scars that I saw so would call it a success. Sometimes there's just one that's doesn't work out. I have a fish or two that I would love to add to my 180 but I have 5 tangs and zero aggression from any so I'm scared to upset things by adding a new fish.
Now if I could just stop dragging my feet on the new 96x30x24 build I've been talking about for a couple of years I could add a few.

Yea it's a big one. CT is probably about 6 inches...no issues at all. Sohal gave a few slashes to the Snapper a day or 2 ago and that was it. I removed my Pinktail last week also due to Sohal aggression. So it's just too much at this point. Also, the Sohal won't let the Queen Trigger get out of the rock work. It's a real mean SOB. I can deal with an occasional scrap but the constant harassment is what makes the juice not worth the squeeze.

I'm having the same issues with a sailfin. It's going outright gonzo as of late, LFS life is soon for him for much the same reasons just has become aggressive.
