hey guys, I go through this with my BTA's every so often. most of the time, they turn around and become normal after a few weeks (3-4 weeks). I'm just wondering why they do this? I didn't do anything new and the funny thing is they started doing this after a week I did my water change. before that, I haven't done a water change for 6-8 weeks and they were looking really good. I thought they would appreciate the water change. LoL. I do 3 small (~10%) water change consecutively. I'm about to do another water change this week to see if it helps. a few look like this and most look normal.

I have a GBTA in a 55 gallon tank I am tank sitting. It did this after the last waterchange. (started about 4 days after water change) It lasted for like 4 days I was worried I had done something to kill it.. then suddenly it was looking rather normal. It only has ever inflated at the very tips.. not huge bulbs like i see on some. This has been my only BTA experience as I had only had Sebae anemones in the past.

Is this normal? I have a new RBTA, 1week, and it has crawled all the way down to the bottom of tank and looks like that.
I hope it bubbles back up. :squigglemouth:

They will move until they are happy.. So it moving down shouldn't be to much concern I don't think (this goes for all anemones) Give it some time to acclimate it could just be adjusting still. Feel the anemone if its still sticky its not doing to bad. Try to feed it small meaty bits a few times a week until its fully adjusted and healthy. (what lights are you using etc.. might be a good idea to make your own thread with a few pics also of you stuff so people can better help to your specific situation)

Thanks for the input. I've had a few that this before and it freaked me out the first time but after a week or so they started turning around for better. Hope this is the case for the BTA's that are doing it.

Does that BTA touch another BTA on the side where the tentacles are burnt?

I have a few BTA's in that rockwork. You think they're fighting each other? I've always had them next to each other and they seemed fine. I wonder if it's salt burn from the new water?

I was thinking that they are adjusting to the new levels in the water or maybe some of the salt is not dissolving completely causing some salt burn. could be why it only happens after a waterchange..

Hmmmm... I mix my water for a day.. Might not be long enough? I'll try to mix for two days this time around. :)

Mine have done that from time to time as well, but it usually only seems to last a few days when I've noticed it. I never really saw any correlation between water changes, contact with other livestock, feeding, etc.

Good to hear. Although some of mine have gone through this before and were fine, it still freaks me out. LoL. I'll still do water changes just to make sure.
