Have you used a block style vacation feeder?

I recently got a valentini puffer through quarantine etc and into one of my tanks and I've noticed him doing quite a bit of nipping at various locations around the tank. It's a bare bottom tank, he nips at things on the bottom and rocks and so far as left all coral alone. Very into his silversides, half shell clams etc for manual feedings, however I had a thought about those "Vacation" blocks after observing his nipping. I go to work for days at a time and my wife is more than happy to feed, however I thought if we head out of town for a few days, the auto feeder dropping pellets won't cut it for him.

So, has anyone used these feeder blocks for any type of fish or for valentini puffers in particular with any success? Zoomed has one with freeze dried shrimp embedded in it that piqued my interest.

Already running an eheim with pellets. Puffer is disinterested in the pellets, I wonder if he would go for freeze dried shrimp in the auto feeder.

I could reccomend trying it while you are home so you could monitor it and remove if it fouls the water. During this time I would test nitrates, phophates, and possibly ammonia. If your test run shows no issues and puffer eats it then maybe your good to go for vacation

So I've been offering pellets 2x a day for the tank he is in and I finally noticed the valentini has taken a liking to the pellets! I'm feeding the small TDO Chroma Boost pellets and the moment they sink he's nipping them off the bottom glass. What a relief for a few days of travel here and there.

For what it’s worth I would recommend the plank feeder if you wanna do it right

I second that recommendation. I have an Avast Marine Plank Feeder on my 90-gallon and love it. I also use Avast Marine's freeze-dried food. I prefer freeze-dried over frozen. The Plank has a mixing station where is rehydrates the freeze-dried food. About half of the food will slowly float down to the bottom of the tank, and the other half slowly floats up to the tank, both coming out of the mixing station on the feeder.

I have the plank but use the eheim feeder with it, works great

i used it once back in 2005. dont think i've ever used it again. auto feeder(plank) amazing btw or have a friend stop by

try putting a funnel, make sure the pellets are super dense, make the funnel connect to a little trough.
