Can anyone pin point what kind of “algae” this is? Is this dinoflagellates? And if you can ID can you throw me a idea of how to battle. Parameters are all where they need to be per API. Corals and fish are fine and look great. Using RODI with TDS meter reading zero.

Looks like it could be Chrysophytes aka Golden-brown Algae. Is this a newer tank? They can feed off of silicates and other things in some forms of dry rock and explode on the rockwork like this.

The tank is just over a year old. Is that still new enough for this issue? Anything I can dose to help?

Could be. Age is hard to say, would depend on a lot of things. It happened to myself and some other I knew with new rock. It took my tank a couple months to get over it after I figured out what it was. My issue ended up being caused by a combination of my newer rock with high silicates in my RODI. It took an ICP test on my RODI, mine also read zero TDS, to figure it out. Added an extra canister to my rodi system with a silica buster cartridge and a bit of manual cleaning here and there and it eventually burned itself out. Figure out what's feeding it and it will go away. What kind of nutrient levels do you have in the tank?
