I have already had 2 Marineland 180 tanks warranted before putting water in them because of bad or missing silicone. This 2nd tank, the side panels didn't even meet the front glass and just had a 1/2" of silicone between the gap. The gap wasn't even completely full with silicone either.

Normally I wouldn't even buy another Marineland tank again. I like the corner flows, but rather safety over anything. The problem is I have their high-end Monterey stand that's about $2,000. I don't know if a different tank would fit on this. It has cutouts in the plywood top for the corner flows as well, and any other tank would have to have corner flows or a back overflow that doesn't go through the bottom.

Is there anything I can do besides having the store order another tank? I don't want to drill a tank myself either and this was a rimmed tank. But 2 bad tanks in a row is ridiculous!

Yikes, sorry to hear that.
You could get a custom tank made to the specs that will work with the stand. (more expensive of course)
I definitely wouldn't get another ML tank if I was in your shoes.
Good luck whatever route you take.

You can find another tank to fit the stand. You can also change out the ply wood and put the cut outs were you want them if the new tank has different layout.

You could also order new glass from a glass shop the right size and re silicone the whole tank yourself.

Is this safe?

That's the gap between the left side panel and front pane on a 180. The front panel is on the right side.

Just want someone to give opinions on whether ir not this is safe from the pics. The tank has rims on top and bottom.

any manufacturer should give you measurements of their tanks. You should be able to find one that will fit the stand.

As far as I can tell from a quick search, your Marineland 180g is 72 x 24 x 24. http://www.aquariumdimensions.com/
Aqueon will definitely not work, Visio states 72 x 24 x 24 so that should work. I expect that Crystal Dynamics and SCA will also work, but you need to check with them. Also keep in mind that some tank manufacturers offer a short warranty with your stand (say 1 year) but a longer warranty with their stand (maybe 2 years). That was the case for my Crystal Dynamics aquariums.

I'm not a tank structural expert, but my marineland 265 (which I believe has the same thickness of glass as the 180, 12 mm or about 1/2") has a much thinner silicone 'gap'. Cannot say whether it's structurally sound or not, you'd have to ask ML. Most 180 gal tanks are the same footprint generally (though trim can add slight variances). 220/215/210 are also the same footprint, just taller.

BTW, not all tank manufacturers list dimensions in the same way. My 265 for example is listed as 84" long, but with trim its actually 85 1/2". I suspect your stand is sized for that extra trim so the Aqueon probably would fit - but you'd have to measure to be sure.
