having a red algae issue

i am having an issue with my tank. i have red algae on the back and front of my tank. when i went to scrap it off today, it was a bit rough feeling and bright orange underneath the red. now my tank has a orange hue in the water. it is a salt water aquarium. any thoughts?:squigglemouth:

i know that the last time i checked my nitrates have been in the ok area. nitrite i dont know.amonia is ok. phosphates i dont know. i dont have any green algae growing though either

ya that will help how long has ur tank bin running for.how long do u have ur lights on for ?

it has been up for about 3months now. my lights come on about 9 then off at 10

tats 13 hours tats a lot go more wit 12 but u need to check ur Phosphate Nitrite Nitrate Ammonia just let ur tank mature

weekly water changes.. i have been fighting red alge for 4 years ..i get it bad when the season's change and also overfeeding...good luck..

i just found out that it was some coraline algae. and i scraped it off.

Hello and welcome to r2r :bigsmile: If you are wanting to have coralline algae in your tank, one of the things that I have read to help it spread in your tank is to scrape it off a piece of live rock with some on it into the water. It will spread and start growing in your tank. So if you are wanting coralline scraping it will actually help it to spread.
