Will having both an algae scrubber (to get rid of nutrients efficiently) and having the chaeto in the fuge (to have a place for critters and whatnot to grow and also help remove nutrients also) help ultimately keep the tank healthy and increase nutrient expropriation? Leading to heavier feeding less worrying. I have 150 gal and will be heavy feeding. And I'm trying to move towards less water changes. I know of course I'll always do water changes but I'm trying to make things a little easier.

Why not? Just test the water every 4 days or so for a month and report your findings! I'm curious for some solid research on this!

do you already have a scrubber?

No I just work on them and have seen multiple set ups with both that have big bio loads with no issues, if your bio is light then you might run into some issues where you might have to dose it back in which is where you might want to pull some chaeto. I know people say they do it so in the end it requires you to do less maintenance but again requires some monitoring to make sure it doesent overgrow and overtake the nutrients at some point

I’ve seen scrubbers work too well and strip more nutrients than desired. My biggest concern would be that it would starve the chaeto in the refugium. It may take some work to balance but I suppose you could.

Yeah I mean you can always use neo nitrate and neo phosphate to feed your chaeto, never wanna fully strip your nutrients as you might already know

Wow just came back and didn't expect so many replies! Thanks guys!!, yeah definitely it's something that requires tweaks and subtitles. But I think if it works it can be an awesome benefit. Especially with the way I'm feeding. I'll definitely keep you guys posted as the time goes by on how well it goes.
