I have downgraded to a 9 gallon and have kept alot of my high end coral so really do not want to have any issues.
Right now I have a 50 watt heater in there and my temp is changing up to five degrees in a day. Is this a bug problem and if so any suggestions on a heater that will easily maintain a temp. I would like something simple stupid that I could just set at a temp and not have any problems. Thanks

what the time frame between the high and low temp?

May not have much to do with the heater....it may be the lights providing all the heat. I don't believe my heater has come on yet. The lights and ambient room temp keep the tank temp at about 78 degrees all the time. But, this is on a 75 gallon not a 9 gallon nano.

Just a cheap 50 watt. The time frame of the temp change is 12 hours. I keep my house at 65 degrees. It seems when I come home from it starts to peak towards 80 and when I wake up and in morning it is closer to 75(obviously my room temp is colder in morning. You may be right on lighting I only have my 120 watt light(until I get a light that fits better) and I try to only run that for a couple hours then just use the 7 watt white light with a 4 watt blue and white for another 5 hours each night. Is there a higher quality heater that actually keeps a consistent temp?

Id expect more from a 50w heater in a 9 gallon tank but if you have it 65 in the room, asking for the heater to add 13 degree might be a bit to much. Combination of sun heating the house with lights heating the tank could easily put you up to 80 in the day, especially if you have a top.

Just see if the heater is coming on in the day, when the tank is past its set temp. Id say the lights r adding ur heat, its a very small tank and its warming in the day. I use to have this problem with the 400w mh

I recommend and use Aqueon Pro heaters, I had an Eheim Jager and it took a dump in 3 months. Almost everyone else will recommend one, however, I had a bad experience and don't plan on using them again.
