Hi y’all - I could use some help identifying what’s going on with my acros. I feel like it could be AEFW but I don’t see eggs or bite marks.

My only other thought is alk swing but I thought you’d see burnt tips with alk swings. I’m dialing in my trident and dos so I’ll swing maybe .2-.4 dkh. I probably shouldn’t turn off my dose and wait for the levels to drop to turn back on but that’s what I’m doing.

anyways I’ve attached some pics. please please help.

8.48

I’ll test trates and phos but last time I checked about 3 weeks ago I was at 5ppm and .04

thanks

praveen

Looks like clean stn. Lots of things can cause that. I often find it’s something simple and often overthink when trying to figure out stuff like that. Any recent changes? Maybe tank pics and more info will help someone to help you.

Ok I’ll add some pictures but the only thing I changed was adding filter socks. I noticed my dog going into the room where my tank is (my office) at night to sleep there. Could dog hair be an issue? She’s an Australian Shepard husky mix so if you look at her she sheds.

Also, sorry, I should have said all this before - I’ve been increasing my % on my radions by 2% every few days and recently increased the schedule by an hour. Did I shock my coral? Was I too aggressive?

Adding an hour with leds might cause issues if your light is already up pretty high I would guess. I am no led expert. But I would think it would cause lighter corals before it caused stn on the underside of corals. Let’s see some pics of the corals from the top/side in daylight so we can see their health and give us some specs on flow and feeding and whatnot.

Did you dip your corals when you got them for pests?

Aside from AEFW, black or red bugs, STN can come from stress. Sudden changes in water chemistry, contamination or temp.

Wether it's pests or environmental, bad bacteria can cause tissue necrosis to accelerate and transfer to near by healthy coral. This has been substantiated by research. Pathogens then attack the weakened tissue and this is when we see tissue loss.

It's a little unclear what to do after this happens, especially in the hobby. The tried-and-true method to deal with this is to frag away the dying and dead tissue. Removing every last little bit that you see out of the system. Aside from dipping the coral to remove any pests, there are theories of using antibiotics to treat and kill the bad bacteria, but this is still not fully understood.

Sorry didn’t reply to the rest. Elos 120xl, reef octo regal 150, icecap ATS, running carbon and phos gaurd, 2 mp40’s and vectra l2 return

Your water may be out of micro-elements, I had son acros and montis bleaching, so I order an ICP test, what I found was that my water was grate on all the macros like Mg, Ca, KH, P, N, Idine, K... but there was a lack on every thing else.... B, Fe, Cu, Zn, Mg, Mn, Co, Mo, V, Sn, Rb.... I soon realize that water changes were not enough to keep the aquarium consumption, so I did a daily 10% water changes during 10 days to replenish those, and after I decided to use reef plus ( non stupid free product) that can destroy your aquarium in minutes, because it has iodine, but has all the micro - trace elements that the reef needs, so I decided to dose it by the consumption of iodine in the aquarium and daily dose it in 1/30th of the monthly needs.. since then! my corals are fine.

So run a ICP test and find out what is your case, and proceed with a solution that works for you!

Looks like typical LED shade to me...

Are you saying that with instant ocean your calc is 550? I have to think that something is off. Did you use the calibration kit with your trident? I feel like you're adding too many points of failure if you dose based off your trident results. If it were me i'd fine tune your dosing schedule assuming you're not using a trident and use the trident to check for consistent results.

Yes to RO salt - I’m not dosing calc. Just alkalinity. I’ll order an ICP test to see what’s going on. I fact checked my trident with a salifert test kit and both were pretty much within 3%.

I don't see salinity (sorry if I missed it), but all of the big 3 are elevated above NSW levels, which to me suggests a possibly miscalibrated salinity measuring device.

Also how old is the tank and did it include live rock? Like many I've found that SPS are especially sensitive to bacterial issues.
