Hi guys I'm just about to start marine when I find out my girlfriend is pregnant. Is marine still doable with a baby on the way or should I forget it now? Does it take as much time and money as people say it does?

It is not a cheap hobby

i have a 3 month old and it is pretty time consuming...meant the baby...as well as the tank. All depends on the size and what u want in it. SPS, LPS etc. lots of testing in the beginning to make sure parameters are right. KJ is right, not a cheap hobby depending on what u want it. good luck and have fun!

I have a 450 litre tank freshwater which I'm converting finally think I'm ready for it . I don't wanna fork out so much money and not have time for it. It's a dream of mine uv has since a kid. Is love to be able to do both . Im going for FOWL is this the easiest and cheapest option for me?

If you still want to do a tank I would try a nano. Not as much to take care of and easier on the wallet. Just an idea. Me and my wife are trying now and I know when that time comes ima have a whole lot less time and money for the tank. Im trying to get all the big stuff purchased before hand so only money to be spent will be on supplements, salt, and livestock lol.

I have 2 kids one still in diapers, I am the guy who believes that with top notch equipment your paying for a label. I've got a bio29 and a 90g. You just gotta take it slow, between here and craigslist you should be fine.

That's what I'm trying booth2010.once I'm selling all my freshwater equipment to make money for marine equipment . Money I make will b for baby . Thank u all for your advice

i have a 210 gallon sps dominated tank and it takes a lot of work. I think a fish only tank will be easier and cheaper but fishes are also be expensive depending on your taste!

You will have a lot of time. After all, you will not sleep much! Congrats btw....

Thanks for all your response guys feel a lot better I'm gonna go for it [emoji3][emoji16]

I just had my second daughter last month I have a saltwater tabnk thats gonna eventually have corals and all the other good stuff. My advice is PATIENCE. start slow as I have continue getting information as you go along to keep you from buying things as it worked for me. Its doable. Just have PATIENCE

No, stay out while you can. Once you catch the reef bug, there's no turning back, next thing you know, you want all the high end products and corals. It's too late for me, but you my friend can still be saved! :)

Depends how dedicated you feel toward it. If you're the average joe, I'd say wait until the immediate stress on your TIME and MONEY has passed and the household has re-settled. (Not to say back to normal...that will never happen.)

It will be a great time to spend reading - and it'll give you time to see the difference between husbandry practices if you pick a few people to follow who have successful tanks and like interests. People who are (e.g.) constantly adding/replacing livestock will become apparent, etc. People whose biggest problems are corals overgrowing their tanks and whose fish live forever will also become apparent. As a beginner, it's important to recognize and learn from both groups of folks! :)

When we had our baby two+ years ago, my tank was already old (by online standards) and had been refined to be a nearly bullet-proof system. As it was, the tank went to bare life-support, getting almost no attention from me aside from feeding the fish. There was definitely no time to sit and enjoy the tank or do extra research, etc. If it were a brand new tank, that scenario would have made it a sad waste of money (and a distraction you won't need).

Waiting can't hurt anything - in fact if you keep learning during the wait it will be a bonus!
