Hey everyone! I just picked up a Rock anemone and for some reason I cannot get him to get footing anywhere. Placed him on the sand, on the sand next to a rock, against the glass at sand level, dug a hole in the sand by a rock and by the glass. Lights on, lights off, all flow on and off to varying degrees. He's definitely alive because he's opening and closing when I scoop it out to stop him from floating in the current, opens right back up again when I put him on a rock.

Anyone got any ideas to get him to take footing?

Water Params:
Ph 8.2
Ammon: 0
Nitrates: 5
Po4: 0.05
Cal: 480
Alk: 9
SG 1.026
Mag: 1900 (killing bryopsis)
Temp: 77-83 depending on the time of day.

+1.... He'll attach when/where he wants to. All mine blew around in the current for a couple hours till they touched down. It looks rough but these are ocean dwelling animals. It'll find it's spot.

Just leave the circulation pumps on and let him float and attache where he lands or shut the return pump off too?

Depends on how strong your flow is. Getting blown around in current is fine. Getting smashed on rocks isn't good.

Oh and just FYI he may pick a spot either under a rock or where u can't see him. Let him be. You'll be shocked at just how quickly these brainless beauties can move around. He probably won't pick the spot you'd prefer but it's best to let him move around on his own... or her own

Thanks! This is in a 120 gallon with dual returns pumping about 1100 gph so not real excessive. I'll try with the return on for awhile and it he doesn't seem happy I'll turn it off. I have had many carpet anemones like Haddons and never had a problem getting them to settle before, he's got me mystified. Definitely a beautiful and unique creature.

If it comes down to it you could place a container over him so he has no flow at him and has to put his foot down

I'm a huge fan of s.haddoni also!! I'm forever mystified by the things. They actually exhibit personality which is sooo counterintuitive considering their biology. I'm sure your nem will find its spot. My BTA have always gone tumbleweed style surfing at first and generally stick where the current land them... a "go with the flow" sorta animal.

heres a few of her rock nems

So, it decided to take refuge under my huge Frogspawn, in a cave hidden from the light. Hopefully it decides to move up out from under there, I sure hate to try to move that Frogspawn.

Liquid s.haddoni is probably one of my favorites too! I've had a 150 gal tank that was dedicated to one and a harem of Saddleback Clowns. The tank was only 12 inches deep with a 250w MH pendant and two T5 4 bulb strip hing about 12 inches above the water line. We had a power outage that lasted 12 hours and I was not in town. This was before I believed in redundancies and backups.....Lost everything in there, the nem was 25+ inches across at the widest point. I have been wanting to set that up again with a S.gigantea next but I haven't the time.

I had a feeling he'd take up a spot like that. Mine always start off in such a spot but they'll move in time.
Sad! its hard losing such awesome animals! I grew up with dads 500g reef in the 80's. He had a S. Gigantea that was easily 3ft diameter that I loved. He'd had for 10+yrs. his reef was 15yrs old or so and lost the entire thing in Katrina.
I lost my Haddoni recently when my A/C failed for a couple of weeks. Now that I have a cooler I decided this time I wanted a baby Haddoni. It took a shockingly long time to find one which I eventually did in Plano, TX. He's the smallest Haddoni I've ever seen. Great animal!
