Hawaii Doc buy or not?

Hi folks I am looking for a Hawaii Doc for quite some time and now found someone who wants to give away a 5year/10cm for quite a good price. I received the following two pictures and are a bit unsure about the condition regarding the fins and the belly. As it is quite a drive away I wanted to hear your opinion. Does it look ok or not? Would you go and buy?

I’d personally ask for a photo of the full fin extension. As for the stomach I can’t see too much of the unusual. Depending on the price I’d go for it as fins can and most likely will heal if anything is wrong with them (As long as the damage hasn’t gone too far into a certain part of the fish that helps the fins to heal).

Believe it or not fins do grow back pretty fast but depends on the damage . I’d bet the sailfin in the picture is the culprit .
That being said I have seen some terrible looking fish and doubt their fins would ever grow back .

the asking price would be a huge factor if I purchased this tang .
along with size of your tank , other tank mates it would be with the drive to see it ,
Perhaps everything could help with negotiating a price

IME, it can take a long time (if ever) for those fins to regrow.

I have a yellow tang that I got as a rescue with damage to top fin, about 2-3 years ago… 5 other yellow tangs in the same tank are fat and healthy, but the fins have not regrown on that rescue…. No one is picking on him!

Not sure what you’re seeing, but no TV in that room, possibly one of the other tanks?

Many thanks for all the replies! The asking price is 175€, whereby a young Biota doc would cost here 249€ in store. So I would save 75€ or roughly 30%. What do you think?

If the fins would not regrow, I would not be too happy about it. Is there any grow probability indicators I could look at when checking the fish?

Rays grow back pretty easily, but spines don't. I would guess that fish won't ever look normal.

Ok, then I rather do not buy the fish. I rather save somewhere else than looking at a mutulated tang the next years. Thanks!

If you don’t mine the look, but that’s going to probably always look like that. As far as the health, it looks healthy, but the damage was probably done when it was young.
