Saw a small stingray but he was gone before I could get a picture. Also two small sharks in the sand but all you could see was the tips of there fins sticking out.

Love the islands. Been to Oahu twice, but had small kids with me both times. We snorkeled a bit, but mostly ran around after kids and saw the gardens and aquarium, zoo and such. Kauai is great. Been twice and love it. Snorkeling is fun and it is very outdoor adventure. Expensive though.

Glad you took advantage of the trip. Even low on funds, you can hang and have tons of fun talking to locals and just enjoying the island life.

Here's a video someone posted of the outer fore reef - a bit further out than the area I circled in my big post a few pages ago, I think. Mostly Porites lobata and compressa (the latter being a branching species; the former being an encrusting species which is among the most common in the world).
