What is the difference between a normal male Hawaiian Flame Wrasse and what they call a supper male? is it just the term used for an extremely nice male?

yes. i believe a supermale is better pattern, brighter colors and larger than the average male. i've seen differences with "supermale" and "male" .

Cool I am looking to pick up one and just wanted to know before I got one....Thanks!!!

Here's a picture of both our super (left) and terminal male Flame wrasses:

So there is a big difference in color and look...my question now is will your terminal male eventually turn as nice as your supper male if treated properly? and by the way incredible fish!!!!

Thank you. We love our wrasses. These two were purchased as a super male/female pair. It did not take long for the female to begin morphing into a male. Thankfully, we have a good sized tank and they are well-fed which helps keep the peace between the two.

If we separated them, the terminal male would quickly become a super male.

OK so all males will turn to a super male at some point?

I would say all males have the potential, but I believe it depends on the dynamics in the tank. Maybe one of the experts like Brad Syphus will chime in...

Thanks I am placing an order with PIA....one male and one female in a 120

Correct; there's always the potential, but no guarantees. However, the best recipes for success is to have females of the same species alongside the male in a system. Usually, males of other Cirrhilabrus species will do the trick as well, but this can be a miss. If it's the only Cirrhilabrus wrasse in the tank, it probably won't fully transition.

Also, the transition from female to sub-dominant male can happen pretty quickly, say several weeks. However, the transition from sub-dominant to dominant (super) male takes a long time; many months.

Terminal males have all yellow anal fins, and much more yellow in the face. I've never heard that terminal and super mean different things. AFAIK they mean the same thing... ie the last stage/color that the wrasse will attain.
Yes; terminal male, dominant male, super male. Same thing.

Hve a question.... Can a super male co exist with my mystery wrasse in my 60 gln display which is 36x18x24....one of a fellow reefer here local is trying to get rid of one and giving me a Gus deal.... Wanted to make sure before they end killing each other

I think the tank is too small. I was really surprised at how big flame wrasses get.

I wouldn't try that. Mystery wrasses almost never play nice with other wrasses, and it's not a huge tank. Recipe for disaster, IMO.

I like to see at least 90gal for the bigger Cirrhilaburs wrasses.

+1

Mystery wrasses shouldn't...and probably won't...coexist with a fairy/flasher. Do one or the other...otherwise the Mystery will end up making the decision for you and you'll be left with no fairy/flashers :(

Agreed. My mystery decided to take out a female flame in a 125!!
