I have never had a hawk fish but am looking for something interesting to add to my tank. It is a Red Sea Reefer 350 which means it is 72 gallons. My fish are orange shoulder tang (wish I could catch him-a real bully. I think he is the reason any shrimp I add disappears over night. Other fish yellow wrasse, 3 clowns, coral beauty, shrimp goby, fire fish, royal gramma. What experiences have others had with a hawk? Yes or no?

Hawks will eat cleaner shrimp and any deco shrimp. But besides that great fish

I was also planning on getting one but I love my cleaners shrimp !

Your wrasse is more likely the culprit. What is his species exactly?

We have a flame and we love him. We call him Mo Hawk. XDD As far as their eating cleaner shrimp, I think exactly which species of hawk you get factors in. Our flame has not touched my cleanup crew, but happily devours mysis and the NLS pellets I give him.

He's a very active little fellow, hop-swimming all over our 150g reef XD

We have experienced zero aggression from him, but only get one, as they are territorial with their own kind.

Yellow Coris Wrasse. He seems much more docile than the tang but could be.

I have a Flame named Tony. Said to eat shrimp and I tend to believe it as I haven't seen my cleaner in months! No other problems and a cool little fish.

I have 3 flame hawks. Always looking for more to add. Very cool fish. Never seen them go after med-lrg established shrimp. But my guess small shrimp are fair game. Every now and then, I've seen them pick on smaller nassarius snails

Flame hawks are usually safe with larger cleaner and blood shrimp, but are mini predators, so will go after whatever they think they can eat. Though common, flame and longnose hawks are some of my favorite hawks.

Depends on whether your coris is the true yellow coris or the imitation by the same common name, if I recall correctly. One of them is not invert-safe. I think. For some reason I'm not remembering well.

The yellow coris wrasse is usually safe with cuc, the green coris wrasse rarely is.
