Hawkfish?

I've had a Geometric Pygmy for 4 days now. Ate large PE mysis while it was still in the bag. My LFS packs fish with a couple frozen mysis for short trips. There aren't any other fish in my tank right now, so maybe he's not too spooked, but he'll perch and wait when I turn off the pumps and he'll gobble up 3 - 5 PE mysis a day. Incredible how he can inhale such a big piece. He's small too.

Nice fish and substrate!

I have a flame and longnose in a 75 gallon. The longnose just minds his own business and hunts among the rocks for amphipods. My flame flits around like a crazy ninja every time I approach, hoping for food. They don't fight but I would say the flame is more in-your-face. I have a little pistol shrimp but only because he is paired with a YWG. (Also have hermit crabs) Great personalities. I have a tank full of quirky characters including a tailspot blenny (who chases everyone off his rock) and 2 green spotted puffers.

Good to hear that they are getting along. How long you have them? I see a Puffer at my LFS and I like it but not sure what behaviour they have on a reef.

I have a flame in my 66g and have been thinking about getting a longnose. I have a lawnmower blenny as well and not all that much rockwork so I am not sure if it would work... But they are cool fish.

I've had flames and long nose hawkfishes at different points in my reefkeeping. Both have wonderful personalities, with the long nose being more laid back than flame hawks. Flame hawks seem more active and mine would literally eat anything and eat till he looked like he would explode. My long nose is much pickier on what it will eat and is a model citizen. I would consider any shrimp to be a future meal if sharing space with a flame hawk, but I have had no problems keeping shrimp with a long nose. The perching behavior is really cool with both hawkfish, and each is beautiful but in different ways

My tank will be 2 years old this Christmas. The puffers were among the first added as the tank was put together for them. They are green spotted puffers and come with a reputation but haven't lived up to it. They initially showed an interest in the snails & hermits but nothing more than a cautious peck. No interest in coral of any kind. I don't tempt fate with any shrimp though (other than my YWG's pistol).

I feed them all well with homemade frozen so mealtime is what they live for. They pace around the feeding area at 7:00ish and otherwise go about their their own business.

Here's Carol: (she loves popping out of nowhere)

I recently added a long nose Hawk and found him with one of my hermit crabs in his mouth 2 nights ago..

Yum, yum. My long nose has become so picky eating wise that he ignores most food during feeding time except PE mysis. When I feed multiple foods, he will ignore pieces of other foods and ONLY goes after the mysis shrimp.

I'm wondering if it's a molt as well. I'd be amazed if they could manoeuvre a healthy hermit out of its shell.
Cool pic though

Haha, true. That would be something to see. Mine has never shown any interest in hermits or anything other than my frozen mash or scanning the rocks for amphipods. He's a bit clumsy actually.
