Saw this guy at the lfs. I know theyre shrimp eaters but I have a full grown fire and cleaner and I heard these are the smallest of the hawkfishes. Any opinions? Reef safe besides shrimp? Aggressive?

I have a longnose hawk who killed a peppermint shrimp. I know they are supposed to be moniter with shrimp. Have a buddy with a flame hawk and 2 cleaner shrimp in a 125 reef. Has no problems. Needless to say. I guess that's a chance you will half to take if you want that fish.

Well I know the lobgnoses get bigger and the peppermints are much smaller. But your right. Anything else to worry about besides shrimp? I have sps and zoas

I have a Falco and a Flame Hawk. Both started out innocent enough in the reef tank, but turned into punks as they got settled in. Very sneaky fish. They would dive-bomb other fish when I wasn't in the room. Perfect angels in front of me. Kind of like kids, I guess. Both are now in the 300 with the big fish. The Falco is over 4" and super fat. He's been taking swipes at the Aussie Tusk lately, who is bigger.

Keep a close eye on him. If you see fish with torn fins or hiding, it's probably the Hawkfish. Very cool fish, but very sneaky.
