Hi All, the inside of the front glass on my 75 has a haze I can't get rid of. I have a magnetic cleaner that does a reasonably good job with algae, but not this haze and it's getting worse. I've tried the seachem scraper that has a razor blade like end, a hard plastic edge and a stiff felt like edge. None of these get the haze off either.

What the heck!!??

Suggestions please...it's driving me nuts!!

Thanks!

What I have done only on my glass tanks is used a razor blade. Do not do this on acrylic.

I agree, however the seachem scraper basically has a razor blade attachment and that does nothing to remove the haze.

How long has tank been set up for? New or used tank? Is it actually on the glass or in water column?
I had and old tank with what I thought were hard water stains can't recall what I did for it tho sorry.

Tank is going on 8 months and was a new marineland reef ready 75.

I run carbon all the time and water I pull out for a change is clear in a white bucket.

So I'm thinking it's on the glass for sure.

might be an algae bloom making your water look hazy. Happens all the time. UV sterilizer is my suggestion.

If it’s on the glass be careful not to cut your self and carefully scrape it using Normal razor blade and some elbow grease being careful not to cut silicone or any seal or anything besides the algae on glass. This is just my opinion and what I do and works great no matter what it is on my glass 120 gallon 4x2x2

Thanks to everyone for your comments. I'll try something different on the glass and see what happens.

Have you tried magic eraser ?

Glass is manufactured using tin, if the aquarium was assembled with the tin side facing the saltwater hazing can occur which unfortunately can't be cleaned. Check out this thread. The OP found his answer on page 5... Haze in the glass

Interesting, I knew they extruded glass on to molten tin to make a flat surface but I didn’t know it impregnated it. I’d still try that magic eraser. But now I would be worried about tin getting released. It is basically micro sand paper. Water changes and some adsorption media. Worth a shot for a couple bucks.

Were you ever successful cleaning the glass? I have the same thing on my 220. Pad, magic eraser & razor blade will not remove it. It definitely looks like some sort of deposit buildup. Mine is worse on one side of the glass but is throughout the whole glass indicating that maybe water flow is affecting it. The clearer side is a lower flow area. You can really see it when you get down and look up through the glass toward the lights. My tank has been running for six years but has only been a mixed reef for the last 18 months. So only been keeping ALK and calcium maintained in that time. I don't think its tin as there are noticeable, clearer, streaks throughout. Maybe snails? Got a ton on the glass at night. So frustrating.

Hey,

This is a bit of an older thread, but I think Marineland had an issue with the glass they used. I have a 180. It is 10-11 years old I guess. My tank has looks cloudy for years looking length wise. If I take a spyglass and look top down thru the water, crystal clear. It is something with the glass they used. It looks clearer with lights off since glass is not showing the haze.

I have never thought about contacting them. May be worth trying. But to me. Not worth the hassle to tear down the tank. I learned to live with a bit of cloud.

Well, I thought it was an All-Glass aquarium. But it is 12 years old and I'm reading that All-Glass was acquired by Aqueon in 2000. So most likely not All-Glass. Very well could be Marineland.

After looking at the two tank manufacturers, it looks like Marineland overflows are quarter round in shape and at the back corners of the tank. Mine has the overflows about 8" from each side on the back of the aquarium and are rectangular in shape, indicating it's an Aqueon. This is what mine looks like.

Aqueon picked up all glass. All glass was a good builder. It may just be etching like I think is in my tank. Cannot hurt to run it buy them if you have some way to show where you got it. Worse they say is no.

Just avoid the temptation to try and buff or fix it. The eraser is legit, original only. But so is a normal algae pad, Have not come across anything yet to remove the haze, Anything that would remove an etching would involve polishing and the tank would need to be empty.

I know how you feel. Drives me nuts still after years. But I think more important everything in the tank is healthy and no way I am tearing it all down for a bit better clarity

I'm in the planning for a 240 48"x48" square right now. So come summer, I won't have to look at it anymore. My biggest concern is if it was something I was doing that caused it and not wanting to do it to the new tank. Sounds like it is an actual "glass" issue. I will bring it up to the new tank manufacturer if only so they double check the glass.
