HD's 144 1/2 Moon

I did find some super cool mini maxi nems during my search!

Wicked colors! Add a couple sexy shrimp and it’s party time in the tank!

I’m searching hard for a H Magnifica nem. There are none to be found.

The indo ban is killing me!
Ya I seen you were looking, I got online and looked a little for you, no luck yet.

The wife gave up on her rock nem quest until she can thin out her BTA'S

Hi All, I have been quietly watching this thread since the beginning of it since I also have a Oceanic 144. I have been accumulating the needed gear for about 18 months and will be starting the actual build after the first of the year. The one thing that I am not sure what to do is the lighting. I have picked up 5 AI 26 lights (mix of hd and non - hd) with the theory being that each of the "holes" at the top of the tank would fit one or two of the lights. With that configuration I would then be able to control intensity and spectrum for each area of the tank.

Any input on this idea would be appreciated.

Welcome aboard! I have 2 hd's as you know if your following. The hd's will work together once you set one up as the "child" to the other. You can control the intensity and spectrum at the same time on those 2 for sure. I'm not sure about the non-hd's and if they could be linked to the hd's. To be honest I have never messed with the nons. I plan to add 2 pucs to the 2 outermost cutouts dependent on PAR readings. Hopefully someone does a mix of non and hd's. Worse case I could picture is running 2 control apps for each kind. Perhaps one of the other folks running this tank can chime in. Don't be afraid to post a build thread, I would like to follow along!

Thanks for the input. I see that apex now will control box hd and non-hd ai lights. My plan is to have two control programs within the apex.

With 30 inches of depth and the small openings at the top of the tank, I thought i would want lower light levels above "rock towers" and much stronger above rocks and corals toward the bottom third of the tank. With multiple 26's I can control each area of the tanks intensity. At least that's the plan for the empty tank in the garage! ;-)

I will follow along and when I start my build I will do a build post.

Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas to you as well. Your lighting plan sounds pretty solid. Are you using the stock hood? Another reefer friend of mine hinged his hood. I was able to mount my lights just under the hood so I can easily remove the hood out of the way.

I actually just built a new hood out of Birch Plywood that I bent by using a rear kerfing technique. It was a little harder then I thought but the result is something that I think I can solidly mount my lights to. Much stronger then the original (that I do have). I am seriously considering a lift system to lift the hood vertically although I will also consider the hinge mount. Considering the tank depth, I really wanted the hood and lights to be able to get out of the way while working on the deeper back portion of the tank. Don't want to hit my snorkel on the hood. ;-))
