Hey guys, I know this is mildly off-topic, but I’ve been having some major issues with headaches and sometimes migraines from LED tank lighting. My home tank only gives me issues while we are doing maintenance, moving frags, etc. Times that the lid is being open and shut. My main issue is that when I go to the aquarium stores around me, I always have a huge headache and am nauseous by the time I get home.
Does anyone else have this issue? Am I just crazy? Any tips or suggestions would be amazing!
Thank you,
Erin

Thank you,

I don't have this issue with LED's, but intense florescent bulbs can be a migraine trigger (think big box retail stores).

If I find myself having migraine issues, I try to expose myself as little as possible and try never to look at the source itself.

Maybe you could call ahead to the lfs, try to order curbside or at least be sure they have what you want, and stay as little as possible?

Thank you for the advice!! I never look directly into them and I usually don’t have issues with fluorescent bulbs, it’s just the blue/white LED’s. I have glasses at work that block out the blue light so maybe I will try those next as well. Thanks again!

I have a pair I wear sometimes at work and just tried them at home... it definitely helps! Thanks so much for the recommendation!

I get headaches when I go into stores that run intense blue LED's(I run T5's because of this). I wear a pair of those orange filter sunglasses. Seems to help.

Reef leds reek havoc on how my eyes see color. Mess with reef tank and go into another light source things look off.

I just got my reef lights set up today and I noticed they agitated my headache. They could easily become a migraine trigger so I might have to turn down the blue LEDs when I’m next to the tank for a long time. No other lights bother me just blue light. Heard it is pretty harsh on your eyes. I was thinking about getting one of the blue light blocking glasses for when I’m on my phone so I might try those if turning down the blue doesn’t help.

The amount of blue light emitted by reef LEDs is no different than the same intensity of T5s at the same color temp. The blue wavelength is also the same.

The office you work in likely is throwing far more blue light from LEDs than a reef light. No headaches? Also, sunlight has more blue light per square meter than a reef light.

Kind of reminds me of all the people griping about having celiac disease and want gluton free this and that when in fact none of them have it.

Maybe LED's cause celiac disease? I get a headache when I go into reef shops when I hear their sales guys give people stupid advice.

Both sunlight and even indoor lights can trigger a migraine for me on top of my reef light. I think my reef light is worse because I keep it on for a couple hours while I always have my indoor light off. Sunglasses are my best friend
