I want a reef safe , fairy or flasher wrasse to go in my 55 gallon . Whats some common names I should look for?

Fairies and flashers are pretty much all reef-safe....fitting a fairy in a 55 is a little iffy, and I think flashers are usually recommended for larger tanks because of their activity levels.

Try this: Google flasher wrasse (or fairy wrasse) and look at the photos. Click on one you like and it will often take you to a species profile or at least list the name. Then you can Google that name and learn more about it.

Good to know . I went to a LFS and they tried to sell me a 6 line wrasse. I was like I thought those are notorious bullies . They didnt have any fairy or flashers. Im thinking about ordering one online but ive never had anything shipped alive. Im kinda worried that its a majority chance ill end up wasting my money on a fish that dies because of stress.

Right. Unless you have an aggressive-type tank I would avoid sixlines.

I hear the site mentioned above is good. You might also try PMing nicewrasse. :)

Can I ask yall a question ? Can multiple wrasse be kept in the same tank if they are a different species?

Haha im with you on that
You could do a group of flashers of the same species maybe 3 or 5 one dominate male and the rest females
Just depends on the size of the tank!
But I love wrasses too!

Depends on the species and the tank size. With a 55 even fitting one is a little tight IMO.

You could do a harm arrangement with some of the smaller reef safe wrasses. Check out the link provided in post #4 for window shopping, it's generally a good reference.

Just incase you do get any wrasse, make sure you have a cover. Wrasses are notorious jumpers. Besides wrasse, what fishes were you planning to get or have already? Most wrasse are pretty peaceful unless you introduce fish with similar look. My rhomboid wrasse attacked my Lineatus for a good two weeks before it finally allowed her to stay in the same tank. Wrasses are mostly all born female and the most dominate one will turn into a male, so if you decide to want to get a pair just buy two female and it saves you some money. You can have multiple different type of male wrasses in a tank too. I feed my wrasses 3 times a day, you have to figure they swim so much they have to be using so much energy so feeding multiple time I believe is a a good thing.

I think a McCoskers would do well in a 55. I really like their coloration. I have one with a Christmas wrasse in a 90. I still haven't found the fairy wrasse that I want so I don't have experience with one yet.

McCoskers are very cool wrasse, their flashing is exceptional. You can get a smaller size one too. They're in the Cirrhilabrus family which is more of a rock dwellers. So they can hide sometimes, if you want them to come out more get anthias to complement them. They'll always be out and about. Xmas wrasse are in the halichoeres family which is sand dwellers and they also can eat your inverts, mainly shrimps. I definitely recommend a wrasse for any reef tank, they are exceptional pest eaters.

Sounds good . Ill definitely look into those wrasse . Thanks for all the info. My LFS wont carry many he said they are very fragile well im going to my girlfriends parents house today and they a store near them but im staying at their house tonight and coming back tomorrow morning. What could I do to keeo a wrasse alive if I could find one ? It would be atmost 24hrs out of a tank. Could I take a air pump or something.

Also I have a lid but its plexiglass with holes drilled for gas exchange but I really want simething else . Like a screen but I cant find anything I like . Any suggestions ?

are you getting a fish the day you are going back home or the day before? The fish could be kept in the bag for 24 hours but after that they need to be refilled with oxygen. If kept in the bag for 24 hours you got to make sure the temperature doesn't fluctuate too much, try to stay in the mid 70's. You can make your own screen top cover. You can order the mesh perhaps through your lfs or online and buy the trims and tools needed from a local hardware store. Just google mesh screen top for aquarium, should be able to find it.

I would be getting the fish today and be bringing it back tomorrow.

Just make sure they put oxygen in the bag instead of just air. If you can get them to let you put a couple drops of seachem stress guard in the bag, so much the better.

Okay thats what ill make sure and ill get a styrofoam box to keep the temp constant
