Healthy Acans Eaten By Peppermint Shrimps

Is this unusual to have my peppermint shrimp eat my acans?????

I've seen them do that to my acans, which eventually died. I can't for 100% be sure they died from just the peppermints but they did like to pick at them. I like my shrimps so I don't do acans anymore.

Peppermint shrimp are known to do that from time to time. They eat aipasia mainly because they are after the Stinging cells in the anemone. That is why it isn't uncommon for them to go after corals. Most corals have stinging cells that are appealing to them. It all depends on which region the Peppermint Shrimp were taken from. That is why they aren't a guarantee to eat Aiptasia. I have had a few that I just removed from the tank because they kept killing my frogspawn. I got rid of them as soon as they went after my Duncans.

They seem to love some LPS thats for sure

Yes they ate mostly all the Aiptasia in my 57 gallon which is great but seeing them go to town on my acans wasn't nice. Oh well no acans for me...

I've had peps do this to my acans a while back. Someone told me that it was possibly a camel shrimp and that the two often get mistaken for each other. The hell with it..... I stay away from anything that looks like a peppermint shrimp.

Yeah, In my experience. . . I've had peppermint shimp in 3 separate tanks. In 2 out of 3 Tanks the peppermint shrimp picked at my corals. Only one tank did they not pick at the corals. One of my customers tanks I maintain has peppermint shrimp in there and I don't see them bother any corals in their tank. It's a game of chance unfortunately.
