I've had my derasa for over a year now and he has been growing magnificently well... Wednesday we had people over and everyone complimented how beautiful he was, Thursday I noticed that his mantle wasn't quite as open as much as usual... Today (Monday) his mantle is completely retracted and his mouth is gaping. I inspected him for any irritants or snails and couldn't find any obvious issues, he partially moves his mantle every now and then but for the most part he is unresponsive. I have a maxima in the tank that seems normal so I am at a loss for what could effect my derasa but nothing else.

My tank is a 210 acro dominant mixed reef and I am running 3 Hydra 52's with a T5 supplement for lighting.

None of the water parameters have changed at all, so I am kind of freaking out about why a clam that was thriving last week seems so ill now :/

This is him now :/

I will bump this for you as I have a few clams but not an expert. How is he doing now?

Sadly, the clam did not make it. I want to blame the sand sifting goby, but maybe it just got sick.

Clams can be finicky creatures. I am sorry yours did not make it. I had a baby derasa recently that I put in my main display for relaxing (out of my travel tank) and my red foot conch ate it within an hour . Darn thing. I wanted to throw it across the room, but instead it got moved to the sump.

The sad thing is that its had a good 4" of shell growth in the year I've had it. Which is why the rapid demise was so confusing and heartbreaking. Hope my 3 maximas don't share the same fate.
