Hearter problem...help

I have a 10g QT cycled and ready to put fish on it and temperature is 78.6 with a 100w heater so that's good. Now, I have my DT 40g tank (nothing on it) with a 30g sump with actually around 15g of water volume on it with a Fluval E300 that I took out of my 55g Mbuna and put it on the sump. its only stay at 73 on blue and flashing. I set the maximum temp on the heater at 80 but doesn't go to green to meet the desire temperature. I also have a Eihem Jager 150w that I put on the sump and turn off the Fluval and still get until 73.2. Temp. in the house is about 70 cuz outside is 43. Do you have any problem with the Fluval before? I have it on 86 when I had my Discus and never have a problem with temp. Any suggestion will be gladly appreciated.

I don't know about the other heaters but that 100 watt heater is much to big for a 10 gallon tank. It will cycle on and off continuously. A 25 -50 watt heater should work there.
I keep 2 100 watt heaters in my 100 gallon tank.

Just the 150w eheim on the 40/30 setup is undersized, but should be able to get well above 73 degrees. How are you measuring temperature? Not sure about the fluval, but heaters of all brands don't seem to last very long. They usually break either on or off however, not only just heating up barely, but it could happen. I suspect something else going on, but running another 150w with the other eheim should get you where you want to be.

Hopefully someone can help who has that model of fluval.

When I had that style heater every once and awhile I’d come home to it like that and I always just unplug it a couple times and it would seem to reset. It would also either overheat(turn red) or under heat (blue) if the flow was low but it would then flash LF also. It was a great heater for like 6 months though. The digital display was nice

Thanks. Reason I got a 100w heater is because the 50w have a lot of negative reviews of not giving the 78 on a 10g. I have that running for almost 2 months and still steady with the temp.
