#1 I recently added a new water pump(bigger) +an
extra fudge light. And unknowingly my temp spiked up to 83.(I keep it at 78) Every thing is still alive but my NEMS are all shriveled up. Could this be related to the heat issue I had?

[HASHTAG]#2And[/HASHTAG] how can I solve the heat issue with out undoing my upgrades. I prefer not using fans or a expensive chiller

Thanks jakub

Is the temp holding at 83?

Are you sure of the temp spike?

Have you verified that your heater is working correctly?

If it is in fact the new pump, there isn't much more than fans, a chiller, or replacing the pump that will drop the temp back down....

Why no fans? They are cheap to buy and inexpensive to operate.
What size tank, what pump, is it covered or open top, heater or no heater, surface agitation or not, light type and period of light?

fans look ugly, that's the main reason most people have. personally I would run my house temp lower (I tend to keep it at 70 anyways) or use fans, be it a fan directly over the aquarium or more air movement in the room itself. ive had success with both methods.

Vectra L1dc Ecoteck their pretty new on the market.

I hate fans because it's a game to find quiet ones

not really. the game is to find quiet cheap ones there are tons of good quality high cfm quiet fans....

What type of fuge light? Get an LED one, if you don't already have one.... They don't give off much heat. Raise it as high as you can above the water and run it opposite of your main lights. Adjust your heater if need be, and you should be able to get your temp back down.

Heck, I have 13 year old Vantec Stealth fans that are totally silent standing right next to them. Run them on a variable voltage power supply and you have to look at them to see if they are even running. There are even better fans now but I never found the need to switch.
Why not stick a $10 clip on fan over the sump where it isn't seen? You would need to put it on a controller or timer as it would cool too much running 24/7.

The Vectra didn't raise your tank temperature 5 degrees. Time to find the source and resolve it. Do you run covers on your tank or is it open? What's the ambient room temperature?

Open top with 4 24w t5s

None of those explain a temperature spike. I think the room got too warm and the tank temperature rose as well that day. It's near the end of the year and I'm still running the AC over here, but Sunday we may get a cold spell so the heater will have to be switched on instead.

What pump did you add? Some pumps such as Danner Mags and Quiet Ones are known to run very hot. If it doesn't go down, switch back to your old pump for a trial period to see if it was the pump. If that doesn't do it try reversing every recent change you made such as the refugium lighting. I have found over the last 3 decades in the reef hobby to make only one change at a time so I can monitor its effects. Change more than one piece of equipment, supplement, light etc and its hard to pinpoint what went on.

I added a Vectra L1dc Ecoteck pump(+fuge light) to replace my Powerheads it's a big pump 3000gph. I kinda don't get it I removed 2 500 gph Powerheads. Since yesterday I'm only running my skimmer and pump and tank light (240w instead 400w ish) and its hovering at 79.8

I'll try the clip fan next. If it works I'll do some research for a quiet one

The only way a pump can add heat like that is if it is severely restricted. Are you running it submerged or external? What size plumbing did you use? Since you can control the flow, slow it down to 50% and see what the tank temperature measures.
