I have a 75 gal saltwater tank that I want to put coral in. However, the temperature is a steady 82 degrees. I’ve tried a few methods from the internet, but ice blocks and reducing lighting hours doesn’t make any difference in the temperature. Any new ideas that could help?

One 6 inch fan clamped to my 110G display is worth -2f. Even more when lights (8 X 80 T5) are off.

On the downside, my ATO is constantly running.

What are you using to measure the temperature? I'd make sure it's accurate before taking corrective action. Interesting thoughts on temperature:

You could try a chiller - where do you live? Do you have a.c.? Are you running your a.c?

Try to agitate the surface of the water - you can play with power head positioning (do not sacrifice good flow throughout the tank though - get another powerhead if you need to). Add some fans and test with a few thermometers.

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
