Heat water outside. New York

So my RO water is in my shed and the last few weeks has been cold. My heater shattered so I got a new one. I can’t get the water temperature above 45 degrees. It’s 43 degrees out. The water is in a 55 gallon blue drum. I had a 500 watt in it but it’s a cheap Chinese made piece of garbage. Has anyone had this issue? I have two Aqueon heaters coming in the mail they are 300 watts each.

Get a hot water heater blanket and wrap the drum. It will help hold the heat in.

Here in Callyfornia we're at 35 degrees from 11pm to 6am. My DT for R&D work is outside. We have 200w,300w,500w. Glass Eheim heater, and we're 1 degrees below set point of 74.
Total water volume 90 gallons

Moral of the story. I think you need more heaters.

Insulate the drum, HEAVILY, even underneath. Use plenty of material & X your fingers.
I might even go so far as to put it in an insulated enclosure.
Outside of that & larger heaters not much you can do.

A big home brewing pot and a turkey fryer burner. Will have your water heated up in no time, and you can use your RO water for making beer as well!

Like mentioned above, if you're serious about storing your RO water outside I would invest in an insulated enclosure, doesn't have to be neat or fancy, just has to work. Insulation on the top bottom and 4 sides obviously plus a good 2x4 shell and some plywood I bet you would be set. You're probably going to be spending FARRR more heating that thing over the winter than it would cost to build a proper enclosure

If you can't keep it at temp, the only real answer is to add more heat(ers). Personally I'd find a place inside for it.

Put 2" foam board under barrel and wrap it in at least 2" insulation, same with lid. My garage is ~40* and it takes 350 watts to heat my 20 gallon mixing container.
