I think this is a good place to post my question?? Anyway my question is, Can i use any heater with a controller? I do not know anything about this except that i should have a controller for my heater so i dont fry my tank. please pm me with your input. Thanks everyone!

You should use a controller with your heaters because the heaters will eventually fail, and the controller will protect you from an ALWAYS ON failure. Although I now have a full controller that controls everything, I've always preferred the Ranco controllers over others. However, if you go to any of a number of major fish supply websites, there are a whole bunch of heater controllers out there. The Ranco is a know industry standard and built very well. If you're just controlling heaters, the single stage will do you fine.

I second the comment about using two heaters. Of course, currently I only have one, but using two is a great way to back up your heating solution. Using a controller such as an Archon, Reefkeeper, Apex, Profilux, etc. makes it simple to run two heaters. I also agree that if you only want a heater controller, Ranco is the way to go. Absolutely rock solid industrial grade controller.
