I'm working on increasing my systems stability and adding fail safes. Heaters always seem to be a problem, get stuck on, explode, not calibrated correctly, etc....
I am interested in getting a heater controller. Something that runs off its own temp probe and will better control temps. What are some of my options?

Good decision.

First off. If you buy a good name brand heater. You will most likely not have an issue. I have had my heater's for like 12 years or more. No problems. That being said I'm setup just like you say. I have 2 heaters that are dialed in to the correct temperature. I have them plugged into my apex controller. The controller controls the temp in the tank with a temp probe. So there is a temp probe in the tank and the heaters have their own temp probe. So all in all there is a 2:1 on the whole setup.

I just bought one from Amazon made by baylite as recommended by a fellow on this forum.

If you're looking just to run a temperature controller and the possibility of adding a few other ad on modules at a less expensive cost than the Apex system, Reef keeper light has worked flawlessly for me with zero problems. I am using Eheim Jaeger heaters (2x 150w) in my 135g w/ 40 g sump.
