This is pretty brilliant. I wired my entire house, and ran 2 separate gfci circuits for the tank, but this tops all the planning, generator + ups backup. Great job thinking this one up and isolating stuff that can fry the tank AND keep the tank heated.
So do you have an alarm set for when the backup heater kicks on? That would make sense to confirm the primary has failed. I know some people don't trust gfci or the newer afci, but after wiring my entire house, the gfci and afci have saved us more than once from damages. We got a surge when the power line next to us got knocked down and sent 220v down our 110 lines. Anything behind a gfci was protected (gfci took one for the team) and the afci tripped and survived. The circuits like the air conditioning which were normal breakers fried the equipment costing our insurance company many thousands of dollars. Love the new breakers, love em.
