I have an Eheim 150w and 200w in my sump, they were used. I initially set them at 78’ but noticed my thermometer was reading around 80 so I have been slowly cutting them back. Now I have one at 75’ and one at 73 and my thermometer in the DT is reading above 80. Faulty thermostat? Faulty heaters? The thermometer is not exposed to extraneous sunlight or other heat source. Please help me trouble shoot this issue!

I just had to get rid of two of these heaters. Not only did they not work properly. My 300w one had the light on but was not producing any heat at all. I would recommend titanium heater(s) with a controller.

Eh. I have trouble calibrating Jagers correctly. Sometimes the calibration ring doesnt seem like it turns far enough. Sometines unplugging the heater and replugging it in can help. But I would suggest just ignoring the printed number and adjust by your thermometer, once its dialed in, it will stay there.

Wow! It's almost scary that I have these same heaters in my aquarium and the same little temperature gauge (I also have one that sticks onto the glass like black tape). I can't believe that I have the same issues with these heaters. I'm going to adjust them AGAIN today. I'll replug them as advised and if that doesn't do the trick, then I guess I'll purchase the titaniums.

Once you get them dialed in, they are rock solid. I would still recommend them because of this.

Don’t forget your thermometer may be misreading, so if you have any others I suggest comparing what they read. In my FW tank I thought the temp was a bit low so increased the heater setting a little. After nothing changed much I checked and it turned out that my digital thermometer was under-reading, so in the bin it went!

Not knocking your purchase choice, but I don't like the design with a glass tube that could possibly slide in that plastic housing. I use the cheap glass thermometers with the info printed right on the glass. I bought 5 of them and 4 read identically, so now I have 4.
I put a Jager heater in a bucket with a powerhead and left it on overnight. Next day I read the thermometers and adjusted the heater using the top ring. Out of 6 heaters, I only have 1 that wouldn't adjust correctly so it went in my mixing tank.
