I’ve searched online but haven’t found any helpful info. So I plan on starting either a 20 gallon long or 30 gallon reef. Would I be able to fit any type of heater into an Aqua clear 70. Or should I find a new filter. I should also mention I’m not going to have a sump as well.

yes, you can fit a filter in an aquaclear 70 but youll probably need to adjust the media basket

I would be real hesitant to put a heater in a hob type filter. Idk how you can fit it without it touching plastic, which it will melt. Maybe if you got a guard for the heater, but that will take up even more space.

I think you're better off getting a good smaller titanium heater core with a probe and controller. Can have it behind your rocks, or if it's visible it's still easier on the eye than the big glass encased style heaters.

Yea that seems like the most realistic option. I only had this idea because someone on YouTube put a cobalt neotherm inside of an aquaclear 70, but after everything I’ve heard about neotherms and how expensive they are it doesn’t seem worth it.

You should be fine. I dont think the plastic melts along as the heater is underwater. In fact, some heaters come with plastic mounting brackets.
Some of us lay heaters down in the sump, resting on acrylic.

Different plastics have different melting points. Those that are designed to have a heater touching them aren't the same as a thin wall plastic hob filter...

Acrylic is fine, again its not the same product as whats found on a hob filter.
