Let me try this again by typing my question on the computer and not my phone LOL

Is it ok to put your heaters in the fuge area of your sump?

That is really the only place I can fit them with out getting some super short heaters and then they would have to sit next to the skimmer

How much flow do you have going through your refugium? And what type of algae do you have in the fuge?

I will be growing just cheatto and I have a hose from my return pump going into my fuge that I can dial back if needed

No problem in the sump. I have two heaters....one in the sock/skimmer section and one in the return section. The temperature probe that controls both heaters is in the return section. Been that way for over ten years without issue.

As I was typing and thinking....you see I can multitask.....I know of not one person who is running a sump/refugium who doesn't have their heaters in that sump/refugium.

The more flow the better, you generally want your heater to be in a medium to higher flow area so it can get the heated water back up to the display to keep your fishes and coral nice and warm :) The only issue I see you potentially running into is the chaeto growing on and around your heater and having your chaeto get burned from direct contact with the heater. What I would do, depended on the size of your fuge, is get some egg crate and put it between the heater and chaeto so that the chaeto doesn't have access to where the heater is located. But make sure the eggcrate isn't making contact with the heater otherwise it could potentially melt.
