I have a 75 gallon display with a 40 gallon sump. I have a 300 and a 200 wat heater in the sump and the temp probe in the display. I can not achieve over 75.6 degrees in the display. If i moved the heaters to the internal overflow would that help heat the water to 78 degrees?

Fish freezing need help.

I don't think putting it in the overflow would change anything as that water goes straight into the sump. What is the ambient temperature in the room the tank is in? Do you have a lot of water movement through the sump? Can you verify that the heaters are actually working?

I have about the same setup a 300 and 200 watt in sump, mine are place in the little area before the
return pump, where the sponge would go. I no trouble keeping tank at 77.5.

Room temp is 68 flow through the sump is provided by an 800gph little giant, the water in the sump is significantly warmer than the display. And heater light cycles on and off. Trying to avoid anything in the display, it is a fish only.

That is where mine are located in the sump.

You need more flow through the sump then, ideally they should be the same temperature. I have a 65 gallon and my return pump is 1700 gph. I have a small heater in my sump that regulates the temperature and both the display and sump are the same temperature.

I like to keep mine in the return chamber. What type of heaters are you using? Some can have wide temperature swings. I'd also use two separate thermometers to verify the temps.

800 gph should be more than sufficient to keep uniform temperature between the tank and sump. Have to checked the actual turnover - perhaps you are getting much less than you think.

This is the heater i am using.

Hygger Titanium Tube Submersible Pinpoint Aquarium Heater with Digital Thermostat,IC Temp Controller 200W
Except mine in 300 watt and then i have a marineland glass 200 watt.

My heating element is in my sump. It’s in the skimmer section. My temp sensor is in the section of the sump just before the skimmer section. What this does is send the water through the entire system. Taking a temp reading at the end.

I moved mine to the internal overflow and temp probe is on far side of tank. Tank has stabilized at 77.6 degrees.
