Heater question

I use rubbermaid trash cans to hold my RO water and mixed saltwater. I need to heat both a little, but the last time I used a heater, it burnt through the trash can. Is there any heaters that have a shroud, or could I make some sort of shroud to prevent this?

Man, I have never had that happen! That heater must have been mega-hot.

Yeah, sounds like it could have been defective or something.

You could always get a piece of pvc, and put it inside it. or maybe even a short piece of stainless steel pipe.

I remember seeing a DIY a long time agon on making a shroud out of PVC, but I can't find it for some reason.
