I have a 55g tank with 25g sump. I read in some of the forums that 2 heaters are recommended over one. Do I get 2 x 100W heaters? I keep my house at 68 during winter, should I get bigger heaters? Also, what controller should I use for the two heater setup? The ones that I have seen have single probe. Thanks!

I use one 200 watt heater in my 55 gallon, temp is very stable. I'd recommend 2 150 watt heaters, better too much that not enough as they'll just run less often or not as long.

Inkbird makes a temperature controller with two independently controlled outlets by different probes. Could use that, or use two single probe controllers if your budget allows.

Thanks, ordered 2x150W Jager trutemp and 1 inkbird temp controller.

If Im not mistaken you'll need two controllers (one for each heater). There are two inkbird controllers, the one for aquariums has a suction cup on the temp probe and has two outlets for heaters. the one for anything else (brewing etc) can be used for aquariums but has no suction cup on the sensor probe and the outlets are 1 heater and 1 cooling outlet.

Yes, you're correct. The one for Aquarium is ITC-306T and now they have one with Wifi Option and two probes which is Model ITC-306A. I got the Wifi one. btw the one with two outlets can be used to plug in both the heaters and monitor the temperature.

The reason people recommend a 2 heater set up is in case one of them gets stuck in the on position. If you have 2 heaters that are slightly underpowered, if one gets stuck "on" then it cant boil your tank to death

i love the aqua top titanium heater with the digital display
and also i used to use 2 heaters until one of they stuck on and the tank was 84 degrees. not very high but i lost a big colony of gold hammer i've been growing for a long time and all my acro overnight i was so angry i smashed the heaters and never bought the company again. i may have over reacted but i will only use a single reliable heater with a sensor attached to the heater so if the tank goes above the temp it will shut it off. i like the titanium heater because it's powerful and efficient , and it's small enough to hide the heater and suction sensor in a tank where sump flow is too slow or sumpless tank.

That seems scary. I agree on buying a reliable product as you end up loosing a lot if things go wrong. I am hoping that two heaters with an external controller (ink bird) would provide some additional security. Don't know if I can still cancel the order. Any experience with Jager brand?

I have Jager in all my tanks and I also have a 55 g but with a 32 gallon sump and I use two 150w and works just well and keeps temptature very stable I use my apex to control both.

It cost slightly more, so I went for it. The weird thing is that I could only find it directly from them or from their ebay store where you can put an offer. They accepted $44 offer... Hopefully that'll help you further in your decision
