Hi everybody,

I have done fish only and reef. I’ve finally decided to take a stab at something I’ve always wanted to do. I’m gonna do an octopus tank. The octopus I have been wanting to get is a Pygmy Atlantic octopus.

I’m getting a fluval sea eco 13.5 gallon. I’m getting the ps2 slimmer designed for this tank. Only thing I am struggling on for making a decision is a heater. I will need to keep the tank at 72 degrees Fahrenheit. I don’t know which heater to chose as space will be an issue. I am currently thinking the cobalt northern 75W heater or possibly a 50W.

Any advice is appreciated. I’ll keep you guys updated on how it’s going once I have it set up.

I am currently at college and am looking to get the fish when I go for next semester I plan on starting to cycle later this week. Tank should be in on Friday.

My next question is what substrate should I use. I was think pink Fiji aragonite. If you feel there is a better option please let me know.

Thanks everybody!

Edit: I forgot to mention that when I leave college I have a tank for him at home that is fully functional, so I will go to a LFS with him and have them bag him with compressed air so he will be good for the car ride.

If in a dorm, make sure the school leaves power on over breaks, some are required to turn power off.

I would do a titanium heart and a controller, like the BRS schwego and inkbird. Most heaters with built in thermostats for the hobby will work fine, but they all kind of suck.
I would recomment you check out www.TONMO.com for ceph keeping info

Use an eheim Jaeger for the heater, with the inkbird or other controlling.
Set the eheim temp to 3 degrees above desired, it will never get there unless the primary fails on, then the eheim will shut off.
The eheims use a bimetallic type of switch, which is more reliable vs other electronic type with power cycling.
