I just recently bought the innovative marine 100 ext and I am not sure which heater to buy. I was looking at the helio 700 watt heater from innovative marine which comes with 2x 350w heaters. I have a 100g display tank with a 57g sump. The heater says it’s rated for 100-200g but this seems a bit overkill. Any advice?

the helio system is awesome. I highly recommend it. I actually run 2x 350 watt elements as well, and my system is only 350 liters/90 gallons. Two elements is great to have for redundancy. I also love the high/low temp and dry element alarms on the controller, and the super sleek and secure magnetic mount.

I also use finnex titanium heaters on my frag system, those are great as well, quite a bit cheaper, but with less bells and whistles: https://amzn.to/3Oz4dK2

Assuming this isn't going in an unheated basement, 700W is overkill. I would think somewhere between 300-400 W total would be sufficient. Definitely get two and use a heater controller. I personally like Eheim heaters...they have thick glass.

i have a 120 with 40 breeder sump, 120 gal total volume. 2 eheim 200 watt heaters and room temp down to 65 at night. maintains 78 degrees. you dont have 157 gal total volume.

I have the 700W IM Helio on a 112. It's great. As for overkill? Possibly, but it's better to have something rated for higher than it always struggling to keep up. Who knows, maybe you'll upgrade in the future. it's also less plugs than the ink bird that has dual outlets to turn on and off.

So if I was to get an innovative marine heater would you buy the 700w with 2x of the 350w heaters or the 400w with 2x 200w heaters?

If you are in the middle, you can also go with 1x 350w and 1x 200w. Ambient room temp can make a big difference in heater size requirement.

I would love to do that, but innovative marine doesn't offer that option
