Hi guys and girls

after a grew years running a n old reef tank took the plunge and just ordered a new waterbox 180.5 old one was a 75g

now before it turns up when ever that will be i need to work out a few things and wondered if you lot could help with the heater size for the tank

I’m running though a dd controller so was thinking of the dd titanium but can’t seem to work out what I need as some

if I work it out 180g approximately so

3 x 180 = 540 w

so was thinking 2 x 350w total 700w ( approx 4x ) would do the job or should I be looking at the bigger 500w heater?

as 5 x = 900w and the room temp is 18 deg C most the time ( 64.4 deg F ) even though it’s only a 7 degree difference

also will the dd titanium heaters fit in the sump section with a nyos 160 protein skimmer easily As this time I want to setup a refug so really want to keep the baffle in place.

thanks in advance for any and all input

I’m using
Bulk Reef Supply controller with two 300w titanium heaters on my WB 170 4.5 and it seems to work out perfectly for me. Also the heaters fit in the small chamber my return lines empty into.

see in the uk I was always told 1w per L so 700L 700w but every online calculator seems a lot higher at around 1200w ?

but this seems overkill for the tank

hence my confusion I see 700w should be ample But dowt if my thinking is correct

Well it does get a lot colder where you are versus me in central FL but 1200w seems high.

Yeah

think I’ll go with the 2x 350w with the option to add a third if needs be latter if there not up to the task

but I can’t see there being a big problem unless one fails

thanks for the input
