So my temp is reading 82 I put the heater down to about 78 an it's still reading 82 could it not be dropping do to the heat being turned on in the house an temp raising outside an what should I do to lower the temp on the tank all info would be appreciated thank you
Specs: 80 gallon rr open top aquarium...
lights are off until 3 an still getting that 82 reading on temp

82 is not bad. Cheap option is to get a fan to run/blow across the top of sump or main tank. Program it with your controller to come on at 81F. This will reduce temp down in many case by 3 degree. If you are looking for better more stable and costly option then a chiller will be effective.

Ok I just wanna make sure it's not to high I have corals in the aquarium as well

• How old is the heater?
• How are you measuring the temperature?
• Do you have a vent that is blowing directly on the tank?

I'm currently using led lights but I'm gonna switch back to 6 bulb t5 the heater is about a year to 2 years old an I'm using a digital temp reader

First off, I'd recommend attaching any heater to a controller. If you are handy, you can DIY one, or simply purchase something like a Ranco.

You didn't mention where you live and the temperature of the room the tank is in. If you live in warmer climates, and the house is air conditioned, you might wish to consider a chiller.

Now, what heater do you have? Most heaters need to be calibrated....typically this is turning the temperature ring on the top of the heater to match the temperature in the tank....and the heater turns on/off.

If you don't wish to calibrate, and the heater is coming on when the tank temperature drops below 82 degrees, simply turn the heater down....say to 76 and see what that gets you.

It possible that your heater is malfunctioning. I would replace it to be on the safe side.

I think a controller is a great idea. Even if it just for a heater. Nothing better than redundancy.

Yea I'm gonna look into a controller I live upstate ny an it's just starting to get warm outside again I keep my heat at 70 in the house cause it gets cold at night
