To be super safe for my 120 display + 93 gal cube all plumbed to my 40 sump i have 2 heaters in the sump and a heater in each tank. Just in case one or two go haywire i have backups. All controlled through the apex.

I orginally had 2 heaters just in my sump until that one special day when both died so thats why im over cautious.

What size do you use
For the 120 gallon, do you use two that have a max of 60 gallons?
That is what I am trying to learn

Or are you saying for a 180
Have 3 in there at a max of 60 gallon each? Have 3 vs 2 for the 180?

I use all 300 watt heaters

So here is how i have it setup.

Sump has (2) 300w heaters. Heater 1 and Heater 2.

Heater 1 is the main heater it runs
If Temp < 78.5 Then ON
If Temp > 79.0 Then OFF

Heater 2 is my backup. If the temp drops below 77 it turns on.
If Temp < 77.0 Then ON
If Temp > 77.5 Then OFF

Than here is the heater in my main display also 300w:
If Temp < 77.4 Then ON
If Temp > 78.2 Then OFF

Right now my cubes not programmed to my apex so its just running around 77

this might be overkill but i rather be safe than sorry, had way to many issues with heaters in my day.
