I just did my first water change in my 8g biocube. I put a heater In the bucket to get it to around the temp of my tank. My question is, once the water is heated, how long after unplugging the heater to remove it to prevent damaging the heater? Thanks!

Unfortunately that is impossible to answer because it depends on too many factors. I just leave it in the water for a couple of minutes and pull it out.....if it still feels warm, I throw it back in the water for a couple of more minutes.

Ya if its off its ok to pull it. it should not get much hotter. Just wrap your hand around it for a test....*-*

I just unplug it and remove it. Now as far as temp of water I keep my tank at between 77 and 78 degrees. But the fresh water I keep at 84. By the time i get roll the brite towards the tank and start filling it. The temp of the water decreases to 80 degrees. Reason is it's cold in my basement.

I unplug and remove the heater... usually place it immediately into a bucket of vinegar/water to remove any deposits if I've left the saltwater mixing a few days.
