Personally I see no need since I have and RODI system.

remember, removing heavy metals is only desirable if they are elevated substantially above natural levels. Some are required by organisms (e.g., iron) and removing all metals is not desirable.

I do not know how effective it is relative to commercial reef materials such as metasorb or cuprisorb, but it may act similarly to those.
